The Collision Repair Tech is an Artist
What many people don’t realize is that in many ways collision
repair is an art form. Modern day collision repair technicians aren’t simply body
shop mechanics who have an affinity for wrenches and ball pean hammers. They’re artists who are charged
with recreating incredible and safe environments that have been severely altered
and, in some cases, nearly destroyed. They don’t simply replace a quarter panel
or bumper with a simple weld, they recreate safety, comfort, mobile existence
and peace.
For example, have you ever seen a technician recreate the
external curve on a rear bumper of a 2012 BMW 3 Series, by hand and with putty? Have you ever seen that bumper move from his
hand to the painter who is charged with matching the color so perfectly (both
in terms of shade and density) that it goes unnoticed to the human eye? If so,
then you know these individuals are more than mechanics, body shop guys or
collision repair technicians.
The guys behind the scenes are the guys that play the biggest
role in getting damaged vehicles back on the road in near perfect shape.
They’re the backbones of every collision shop and the ones who are working
before the sun comes up and in many cases long after it goes down. Like an artist, they’re passionate about what
they do and have a skillset that escapes the average individual both in terms
of execution and understanding.
